‘Legend of the Guardians The Owls of Ga’Hoole’ Movie Reviews

www.mahalo.com ”Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” is an animated, 3D adventure movie that opens in US theaters on September 24, 2010. ”Legends of the Guardians” is based on the ”Guardians of Ga’Hoole” fantasy book series by Kathryn Lasky. In ”Legend of the Guardians,” a young barn owl named Soren desperately wants to join a group of “winged warriors” known as the Guardians of Ga’Hoole in their battle against the “Pure Ones” to save “owlkind.” When Soren and his brother are kidnapped by the Pure Ones, they must escape to the island of Ga’Hoole to help keep the owls safe from harm. ”Legend of the Guardians” is directed by Zack Snyder, the director behind such movies as ”Watchmen” and ”300.” The film features the voices of Jim Sturgess, Sam Neill, Abbie Cornish, Geoffrey Rush, Anthony LaPaglia and Helen Mirren, among others. Overall, reviews for ”Legend of the Guardians” were mixed, or average. The film garnered a 46 percent “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ “Tomatometer,” and it scored a 56 out of 100 on Metacritic.com. Major movie critics seemed divided about the movie’s story, though most seemed to agree that the visuals in Legends of the Guardians are impressive. Stephen Farber of The Hollywood Reporter said that the visuals in Legends of the Guardians “sometimes rivals ‘Avatar’ in its spectacular landscapes and thrilling flying sequences.” Farber notes, however, that Legend of the Guardians might be “too scary to be wholeheartedly embraced
