Is Vegas Movie Studio 9 good for me?

Question by Nick M: Is Vegas Movie Studio 9 good for me?
I recently bought a Samsung SC-MX20 video camera. I want to record some of my kids’ sports events and make a dvd at the end of the season. I would like it to have video and stills with music in the background with some great transitions and some text throughout the dvd. Is Vegas 9 a good choice for this type of work? I have used nero in the past and it is average at best. The camera came with cyberlink but that does not look much better.

Vegas Movie Studio is an excellent editor, easily capable of doing everything you’ve mentioned! BUT, the SC-MX20 is a poor choice for recording sports – it uses a very lossy compression which doesn’t handle movement at all well and it’s a poor choice for editing. If at all possible I’d change the camcorder for a MiniDV model.
