There was a Star Trek episode back in the 60s called “Dagger of the Mind” that referenced the first quotation; the second may have appeared as well. There was a traveling group of actors picked up by the Enterprise. The actors put on a play for the crew– Macbeth, of course. There was a murderer among the cast.
