Is it possible to make a living in LA or NY by just doing Movie Extra work?

Question by lovelydragonprincess: Is it possible to make a living in LA or NY by just doing Movie Extra work?
I’m just curious since I do a little of that in Las Vegas, but I work at a retail job for consistent pay checks. I wondered if in a place that makes consistent movies if a person could make a living just doing movie extra work?

From what I have heard, it would be highly unlikely. Too sporadic. Too much competition.
