Question by coolshort5000: I want to show wounds and cut skin for a college movie..can u tell me some easy and real make up tips?
Movie needs to show evil characters. So some of them might have deep cute or wounds. Some would have burnt marks etc. They may even have a deformed or disfigured part. Basically they are dead bodies. I really need to have them look real and not tacky. I know latex is a big help but not easily found in India. Is there a handy and real replacement for it? May be something like a plumber’s putty or kneaded flour or something else. Please help.

If it is not possible to order liquid latex then I would use gelatin. You will want Knox Gelatin you can find it at the grocery store it has no color or flavor. You will need to practice to get the hang of it.

Pour 4 packs into a bowl and add hot water. The water does not need to be boiling but must be hot enough to melt the gelatin. If it is not hot enough you just get a slimy mess that will not work.

Use a artists pallet knife or Popsicle stick to mix.

Work quickly. As the gelatin cools it will get rubbery and will not be workable.

Apply a glob of the gelatin to the skin and use the palette knife to shape it into a wound. Be sure to tapper the edges.

Let cool powder and apply makeup to match skin and apply red inside then blood.

For burns the gelatin also works. With hot water mix a few drops of red food coloring. Then smear onto skin. Work with palette knife. After cool and set with powder apply a light pink or coral makeup.

Remember a burn has layers. If the middle is a 3rd degree burn there will be 2nd degree burns around it then 1st around that.
