Yes, in the beginning we were all principled, inputting all our passion and belief in the film that we are trying to finish however unpopular our theme is and then just randomly marketing the film. But a few scripts and a bad review and zero revenue and I cannot raise any more funds to finance another film and I finally realized that my delivery of passion is short-lived by the fact that I did not research enough to ascertain my movie niche audience and marketing it to the right kind of people, individuals who will like and appreciate the kind of movie that I make. Being involved in a movie project without considering who would actually love and buy the movie would not be a good move when it comes to your return of investment goals. When the movie flops, you may end up cleaning the gutters and as early as now you should avoid it especially if you are aware that the kind of movie that you are inclined to do deals with not so popular topics. Believe me, filmmaking becomes more fulfilling and fun when you are cashing checks. Realistically, money will bring the food to the table and fund your next movie which will again bring the food to the table and so on.

So how do you find your niche target audience? Well, have you heard about the unique selling proposition or what is more commonly known as USP?

First off, you have to make everyone know what your movie is all about and that begins with you knowing what your movie is all about. After clearing up that part, then the next thing that you have to determine is if there is a viable market for such a topic, a niche. Here is a sure fire way to know if your movie has a potential to earn or not, whether it has a niche or not – if there is an organization, a hobby group, an interest faction, or an e-magazine or a print publication that comes in series, then you may have a target audience for your movie. If there is none, then your niche may be too small and if it cannot fund a magazine series, then you might as well drop the entire idea of making a movie involving that specific topic.

Use the power of the internet by using your topic as a search keyword and locating the possible niche target that you may have. To add to this, use Google’s traffic estimator to determine if there are other individuals also searching for the same topic.

As we trod upon this world, in order to make our mark, we need to think of sustainability and making sure that we have target niche to hit would be the smart move.
