How do you make it in the film business without connections?

Question by ballllin: How do you make it in the film business without connections?
I am currently a freshman in college which doesn’t offer film as a major. My passion has always been films and movies and wanted to work in the business but know that it is nearly impossible. I could major in english or theatre arts I guess but what is a realistic path to making it to hollywood (if one at all). I would be open to directing, producing, or even editing.

One job most people dont even think about is sound guys. Boom holders, cable runners, mixers, etc. But you really should go to film school if you want to get in. USC or UCLA would get you connections, but they arent required per se. It really depends how dedicated you are. Basically, how many years you live out there waiting tables waiting until Steven Spielberg sits in your section.
