Okay now, if you want to import a .flv file into Windows Movie Maker, the first thing you need to do is make sure that you have the right codecs installed in order to play .flv files.

If you don’t have the right codecs installed, then when you play the .flv file you’ll either only hear the audio, or you’ll only see the video. If this is the case for you, then I recommend you get the K-lite Mega Codec Pack. It’s really good, and it’s free too. You can get that here.

Once you have that installed, follow the steps below in order to import the .flv file into Windows Movie Maker.

1. Rename your file extension from .flv to avi. (E.G if your file was called Hello.flv then rename it to Hello.avi)

2. Try to import Hello.avi into Windows Movie Maker.

3. If it doesn’t work, then in Windows Movie Maker click Tools, then click options. On the compatibility tab make sure that all of your codecs are ticked. Now try to import the file again.

That’s it!

So now you know how to import .flv files into Windows Movie Maker. Don’t hesitate to spread the word, because many people think they need to convert .flv files to a supported file type by Windows Movie Maker in order to import it. But that is not the case. As I said above, all you need to do is rename the extension from FLV to AVI.

I hope this helps you.
