How do I make my Windows Movie Maker realize that the camcorder IS there?

Question by MacKenzieMagic.: How do I make my Windows Movie Maker realize that the camcorder IS there?
I plugged in my camcorder via USB cable to my computer so that I could upload the videos on it could be uploaded to Windows Movie Maker, but I keep getting the same error message… “Import video could not find a compatible digital video device. Verify that the digital device is properly connected and turned on.”

When that message comes up, my camera says its ready and connected.

The video camera is a Sony Handycam (I don’t know anymore than that)and is about a year old, and my computer is a Lenovo that is running Windows Vista Basic.

Also, I do no longer havee the box or manuel for the camera. If you are refering to a page in the manual, please tell me what that page says!

Thanks!

You did not tell us the model number of the camcoder or the computer or what video storage media your camcoder uses.

MiniDV tape and Digital8 tape uses firewire.

Flash memory and hard disc drive use USB, but you may need to convert the video before your editor can deal with it.

DVD cams mean you finalize the disc in the cam and rip the video in the computer’s DVD drive.

You can download the manual for the camcorder at the support area at sony.com
