How do Fanmade Movie Trailers Work(downloading clips, posting on YouTube, etc.)?

Question by fierce_ferosh: How do Fanmade Movie Trailers Work(downloading clips, posting on YouTube, etc.)?
Spare me pls., I’m a newbie to this trailer-making thing!^_^

First, I want to make a fake movie trailer, like all those people do on YouTube, I really thought they’re awesome and I’d like to make one myself! But all I have right now is Windows Movie Maker, but I’m thinking of buying a better software than that, can you suggest some better softwares? (Just make sure that it’s something that lets you put a text over a clip, rather than making a new slide to insert a text!psh.)

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION OF ALL!!:
Where do you guys get those clips that you use for your trailers?! I heard that you rip it from your DVDs, correct? But where can you download things online for free? Do you have to download the whole movie or can you just download some of the clips(you know, to save some space)?

How do you post it on YouTube? Do you have to convert it?

Lol..
1. If you want to do something simple, Windows Movie Maker will be fine, I done something incredible stuff on Windows Movie Maker… If you really want to spend some $ $ $ go buy Adobe Premiere CS3, it’s what all the pro’s use, but the interface is kinda overwhelming if your not familiar with it (which means you will have to buy a trainer book for it)…
2. If you want to take trailers from movies you need to copy the movie into your computer and open the video file with Windows Movie Maker or Adobe and cut the trailer out and just save the trailer… (kinda of complicated to do and you need a pretty fast powerful computer)
3. To rip movies off DVD you need something like CD or DVD Decrypter, search on google it’s free
4. On YouTube you can only post a 10 minute long film that is under 100 MB. It can accept almost any files, but to make your life simple, when you make your movie and save it as a movie file, save it as MPEG..

All this stuff is really hard to explain if you want more as your doing your project , add me as a contact and I’ll try helping you.

thanks
