How did New Moon make more money in the US that the UK?

Question by I am the SUN. WORSHIP ME!: How did New Moon make more money in the US that the UK?
when New Moon came out, it opened on FOUR SCREENS (4 screens) in the U.S. according to imdB and made over $ 142 MILLION DOLLARS on opening weekend (in the US). But it opened on 497 SCREENS in Friggin’ England and they only made 11 million pounds, which is the equivalent of 22 million dollars. WTF????

How come FOUR SCREENS in the United States raked in almost 7 times as much money as the country with over 100 times as many screens? Are movies a NICKEL in England????
Huh??? Clearly NOTHIN’! It says 4 SCREENS for the US and 497 for the UK. I just cut and pasted the following:

Opening Weekend
$ 142,839,137 (USA) (22 November 2009) (4 Screens)
£11,683,158 (UK) (22 November 2009) (497 Screens)

does that look like 4000 to you? Or 4?
that many pounds is the equivalent of about 17 million dollars ($ 17,660,306.00 to be precise). That’s about one/eighth as much as the US, even though they had 100 times as many theaters. Maybe their theaters only have 50 seats inside.
