Exposing to the right?

Question by kevin t: Exposing to the right?
Okay, I know it’s late but i could really use a quick answer. A couple of things

I am learning about exposing to the right and it makes sense to me in order to take advantage of the dynamic range of the camera. Does exposing to the right only apply when you plan on editing raw files?

More importantly does this apply to the live view movie mode?

Thanks in advance

(Also, not as important but I’m trying to figure out how to manually adjust shutter speed and aperture for the movie mode in Live view. Nothing i do however seems to affect it. I’ve looked to turn on manual settings but it’s no there. Also, I tried entering live view with the aperture/shutterspeed i want and it still doesnt work)
hahah, yea it’s late sorry about that. I have the Nikon D300s with an 18-200mm nikkor lense.

Expose to the right works well for raw and jpg, just with jpg you have to be a bit more careful not to overexpose.

As to your second question, you’re so tired you even forgot to mention which camera. Get some sleep, look into it again when you have, post here with make and model if you can’t find it.
