Contact Lenses- Help with Diameters/brands/online purchases.?

Question by HoTTe: Contact Lenses- Help with Diameters/brands/online purchases.?
Hi! Here is the deal. I went searching online today to see about purchasing some new contacts, and came across the world of diameters and base curve and all that jazz. So currently I wear what I believe is a value brand monthly from the Biomedics 55 (but sold under a different name, and of course I’ve thrown away the box…) I’ve been wearing these for a few years, but feel as though I might need a change as they aren’t as comfortable as before. These have a DIA of 14.2 and a BC of 8.6…A few years back I remember wearing Focus Monthly Softcolours, which are only available in a DIA of 14. I remember never really having had any discomfort with those lenses, which leads me to wonder if perhaps I had been fitted with a poor DIA in order to get me into the value brand lenses by the optical place. I should mention I am in Canada, so there aren’t any brand requirements on a script, and have been wearing contacts for about 16 years. Sorry this is so wordy, and thanks in advance for advice!
So basically I wanted to know if it would be okay to order a new set of lenses in a DIA of 14, as there appears to be a lot more choice in that diameter…

=)

The diameter of the contact can make a difference as to the fit of the contact, some brands only come in specific diameters. How old is your current prescription? If it’s more than a year old I would suggest getting a new exam and maybe getting a set of trial lenses with the 14.0 diameter to make sure that those will fit you well.
As far as them not being as comfortable as before, there might have been a slow change in your eyes, especially if you are near sighted (need correction for distance), it’s very common.
