Capping it Out – Tribes 2 Teamwork

This video demonstrates the teamwork that goes on during organized capping runs in the game Tribes 2, where the flag matters more than the efforts of any one player. It was inspired mostly by the T2 videos Madskills and The Life of a Capper, both of which made me want to hop back into the game after seven years of absence. The video was created to help show others the experience Tribes 2 can offer, though it may have come out in 2001, few games today get close to massive 96vs96 matches that were played with huge team management. Most of the footage was recorded from Elite Warriors Online (EwO) Friday Night Fights matches during February and April of 2009. Tribes 2 is now available for free via TribesNext, though many random matches won’t be as co-ordinated as the Rebels, Elite Warriors Online, and Agents matches shown in the video. For anyone interested as to how I got the video to be fully HD, here is the process I used. 1. Recorded demo recordings of matches via the Tribes 2 built in demo function. 2. Running PJ’s Scripts, namely the Movie Script, the game advanced through demos frame by frame taking a full screenshot each time. 3. With around 100000 .8MB screenshots per hour of footage (12 hours were used), Quicktime Pro would import the image sequence 32000 images at a time (the max per encoding in Quicktime 7, @ 30fps (~18 mins). 4.
