Camera choice, can you give me a suggestion?

Question by Drew: Camera choice, can you give me a suggestion?
I’m going to be going through a series of skin treatments and experimentations, so I would like to keep a close watch, pictorial watch on my skin and I would like to find the cheapest possible camera that could offer me such. I would like to be able to snapshot my pores, wrinkles, discolorations, and other skin related visibilities. Since I’m taking the pictures of myself, I can get as close as I want, set the lighting as I want, and bulkiness is NOT an issue. I have a Canon Powershot 410, which is really really outdated 4MP. I’m thinking it’s not enough to capture what I want.

Selectable ISO settings from 50 to 400
Voice memo (up to 60 secs) can be attached to images
Intelligent Orientation sensor
Builtin microphone and speaker
Lithium rechargable battery and charger included
Direct print to Canon CP-200/300 and PictBridge printers
All new Print/Share button
USB connectivity for PC and Mac
Optional WP-DC500 Waterproof Case

Those are the features of the Canon Powershot I have right now. I would check myself if it would work but I currently don’t have a battery. Would have to purchase a new battery, but if I know the camera isn’t enough to get what I want, then I won’t really bother buying a new battery. Can anyone make me any recommendations? Perhaps if this camera would work, would not work, a camera I could look for, a specific feature that is a must for my type of work.

I would just get a new battery for the camera that you have now. Unless the pictures are essential to your treatment, 4 mp should be fine for these pictures. One thing you might want to check on about your camera is the minimum focus distance (how close you can get it to your subject and still have it in focus). That’s only a problem if you have to take very detailed pictures of your skin. Between the zoom and the 4 mp, the camera should take acceptable pictures of your skin. I wouldn’t worry if you can’t take a picture of your pores because to take detailed pictures of your pores, you need an electron microscope.
