Bernardo Bertolucci’s THE CONFORMIST (trailer)

This is my tribute/homemade trailer for Bernardo Bertolucci’s masterpiece, THE CONFORMIST. This is dedicated to Cecilia, Tony and my first film teacher (Prof. Kashani), who first told me Plato’s allegory of the cave as a metaphor for cinema. I hope this serves as a remembrance to lovers of this film as to why it’s a masterpiece, and also influence people to watch it for the very first time. MUSIC: “Clock Tick” — Abel Korzeniowski “Siboney” — Connie Francis “Death is the Road to Awe” — Clint Mansell A few notes: 1. If you have not seen this movie and are planning to, for the love of God, watch it in Italian dubs as it was meant to be seen. I had to use English dubs because my editing program’s subtitles are tricky and I don’t understand Italian in any case. 2. I wanted to preserve Vittorio Storaro’s beautiful framing as best as I could, but again my editing program squeezed the image when it imported. The actual aspect ratio is a bit wider than what’s seen in this video. 3. The volume for this video is a bit off at time, just bear with me. 4. As per usual, no copyright infringement is intended, and all images and music belong to their respective copyright holders. There is absolutely no monetary gain from the making of this video montage, nor is it at all intended–the only intention was to help people discover this amazing movie.
Video Rating: 4 / 5

This video was originally created for a video contest for the Richard and Kahlan Night Event at the Confessor and Seeker Society. It features clips from the first season of Legend of the Seeker. The song used in this video is “Penelope’s Song” by Loreena McKennitt. As far as I know, these lyrics are based on the story of Penelope and Odysseus from Homer’s “The Odyssey.” In this classic story, Penelope waits 20 years for her husband to return from war, and even though she faces unimaginable challenges, she is still faithful to her love for him. This is why I have chosen this song for Kahlan. In the final episode of season one, Kahlan loses everything she holds dear, with only a faint and fleeting hope that somehow, everything can be made right. It is no easy task to live with almost no hope, to marry your sworn enemy in hopes of saving your true love. And yet, through it all, while she waits, Kahlan’s heart is forever given to Richard. This song is the story of Kahlan’s longing, as well as her eternal devotion to the man she loves. Music and voice/sound were put together using Cool Edit 2.1 and Sony Vegas 8.0. Since the latter program apparently hates my clips, the video itself was made with the same program as all my other videos, Windows Movie Maker.
