In our first five years in Santa Cruz, I painted mostly with an airbrush and spray guns.
This is my old Dodge van with a custom painted helicopter boom on top. I’m delivering it to the Wattsonville airport.
The PBY Catalina seaplane in the background is one of my favorite airplanes. I got to paint huge military stars on it for a movie.*

See the mammoth wings of the PBY here:

We used to sit on the benches in the ‘room’ created by the bubbles and meet or hang out.

* There were two big movies about the Pacific war made in the 70s: "Tora Tora Tora", (1970) and "Midway", (1976).
One of our two PBYs was used for "Tora Tora Tora" and something went wrong with the military stars: they were painted on large sheets of heavy paper and glued or taped onto the plane. When the film company’s second unit was making shots of the plane in the air, the stars blew off !
This must have cost them alot in production costs. In those days there was no CG to go in and fix it later.
That is why I was hired to paint the stars on the plane for "Midway". Lucky me.
